2008 SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

The North Avenue Business Association is sponsoring two
$500.00 scholarships to graduating seniors who reside in the
Chicago neighborhoods of Galewood, Austin and Oak Park and
River Forest, who plan on attending college as a business
major. Chicago resident borders are the railroad tracks or
Armitage (2000 North) to the north, Division (1200 North) to
the south, Austin Boulevard (6000 West) to the east and
Harlem Avenue (7200 West) to the west.
Eligible students must rank in the upper 20% of their
class, have a 3.00 GPA, a combined ACT score of 21 and
demonstrate financial need. Students applying must complete
an application, write an essay, provide a copy of their
academic transcript and two letters of recommendation.

2008 Scholarship Criteria

The North Avenue Business Association
Scholarship is a scholarship offered to graduating seniors
continuing their education at a college or university as a
business major. Two $500.00 scholarships will be offered to
students, who reside in Galewood, Austin, Oak Park or River
Forest (see Chicago boundaries below). Students must
demonstrate financial need, complete an application and
essay and meet the criteria listed below.
- The recipients must be graduating high school
seniors and must reside in Galewood, Austin, Oak Park or
River Forest. Chicago resident boundaries are the
railroad tracks/Armitage (2000 North) to the north,
Division (1200 North) to the south, Austin (6000 West)
to the east and Harlem Avenue (7200 West) to the west.
- Recipients must have applied to a four year
accredited university as a business major. Studies in
business include accounting, economics,
entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, advertising,
public relations, management, statistics, human
resources and operations and systems management.
- Eligible students must rank in the upper 20% of
their class, have a 3.00 GPA and a combined ACT score of
21. Students will be evaluated on the strength of their
academic program and must provide a copy of their
academic transcript with their application.
- The recipients must complete an application and
essay. The essay topic is determined by the North Avenue
Business Association. Volunteering, activities outside
of school and employment history will be considered. The
essay should demonstrate a well-rounded student. All
five questions must be answered and articulated well.
- The recipients must provide two letters of
recommendation.
- A student that has accepted a full academic or
athletic scholarship award from a college is not
eligible.
- Application deadline is February 29, 2008.

The recipients will receive their scholarship award
certificates at a ceremony at the North Avenue Business
Association’s General Meeting in April 2008. The recipients
must provide evidence of acceptance to a college or
university. The monetary awards will be presented to the
recipients upon validation of attendance of their first
semester of college.
